Message from Mrs. Post….

The Tesoro staff and I look forward to seeing all of our students and their families at both the Science Fair and Open House this Thursday evening. Science Fair will be open from 5:30-6:30 p.m. There will be approximately two hundred science fair exhibits, and we hope you will take some time to see what our students have accomplished in science this year. At 6:30 p.m. the classroom doors will open to welcome you to Tesoro del Valle’s Open House. After visiting your child/children’s classrooms, please feel free to visit other classes and allow your child/children to see what they have to look forward to next year at the upcoming grade level. Some students enjoy going back to a former teacher’s classroom and visiting as well. We look forward to your visit this Thursday evening. As we’ve done in past years, the parking lots will be open for parking and once filled; we will then fill the valet line single file for parking at the curb.

Reminder: Thursday, May 20th is a Minimum Day as we prepare for Open House! Dismissal is at 12:45 p.m. for grades 1-6.

I extend many, many thanks to Mrs. Lisa Smith who has been diligent in her Science Fair Chairperson position. She has organized and coordinated the event for our students and teachers this year. Thank you to our PTA Chair and her volunteers who help with the organization of  the Science Fair each year. Thank you to our grade level chair teachers (Mrs. Kim Howard, Mrs. Christine Grosh, Mrs. Lori Turner, Mrs. Sarah Luckenbach, Mrs. Michelle White, Mrs. Michele Boron, and Mr. Andrew Rude) who have also assisted with the coordination of the fair.

STAR testing is officially finished and will be sent to the state via our district office. We will expect results in mid August. Thank you for encouraging your child/children to be well rested and ready to take the test each day. I’d like to say a special thank you to Mrs. Michelle White and Mrs. Diane Paterson who coordinated the testing schedules and materials. Their organization helped tremendously in making it a relatively stress free experience for the staff.

This week students are returning library books to the library. If your child has a book that belongs to the library, please be sure that he/she is responsible in returning the book as soon as possible. Students will still have classroom library books available and I hope that they will visit the Valencia Library all summer long as they have great children’s programs and activities.

If you are looking for more summer activities, classes, etc., don’t forget the Seasons catalog is filled with classes and events for children and adults. They are now enrolling on line and it’s a great way to keep busy all summer long.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

It’s time to send another batch of Box Tops to General Mills.  Please send those small pieces of paper to school.  Some of them have 6/1/10 expiration, so we need to get those mailed in to the company.  During the first half of the school year, those tiny pieces of trash earned our school $339.80.  Every Box Top helps.

Thank you for taking the time to rip those Box Tops off the products, collect them, and send them to school.  Your participation in this program makes a difference.

PTA NEWS

FRIDAY IS SPIRIT DAY

Show your Tesoro spirit!  Wear your cool t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and skorts each Friday!

RESTAURANT NIGHT

Save the date!  Our last PTA restaurant night of the year is Wednesday, May 26th at The Habit from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Flyers will be coming home in next week's Tuesday folder.  We look forward to seeing you there!

DRINK POUCH BRIDGADE

Did you know that all of those drink pouches that our children consume (like Capri Sun, Kool-Aid, etc.) can be recycled?  They can!  So start saving your empty drink pouches because Tesoro has joined the Drink Pouch Brigade!  Simply remove the straw and remaining liquid, flatten the pouch, and send them to school with your student through the rest of the year.  Let's do our part to keep these drink pouches out of our landfills and make a little money ($0.02 per pouch) for our school!

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Let's celebrate our community's diversity!  On Friday, June 4th, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the PTA will host our International Festival.  Join the fun as we spotlight different cultures through dance, music, and food.  Students in each grade level will be performing a specific ethnic folk dance taught during their P.E. class at school.  These student dances will be the opening act for the festival.  We will be offering "A Taste of the World" in which you can purchase cultural foods from our local restaurants.  In addition, we will have an "International Cafe" where families can bring homemade or store bought desserts from their culture to share with others.  We will have a professional Hollywood dance troop perform and, to complete the evening, a DJ for our "World Groove" where families can dance to contemporary, international music.  If you would like to be a part of this exciting event, please contact Lisa Bomben at mamalisa@ca.rr.com

FOOD DRIVE

This is our last month for the food drive.  Let’s make an extra effort this month to fill the bins as our local food pantry will have fewer donations as the schools close down for the summer.  We will be collecting peanut butter, jelly and juice boxes for the month of May.

Thank you.
