Message from Mrs. Post….

This is an exciting week for our primary children as Thursday marks the 100th day of school. I know that our Kindergarten teachers are planning some fun activities centered around the 100th day of school.

On Monday you should have received the School Accountability Report Card (SARC) for our school. This is the condensed version and the full version is on the SUSD web site. The SARC shares information particular to Tesoro del Valle and each site has their own SARC. I hope you will find this report informative.

The February calendar has a new look this month. It is printed using iCal rather than my usual Zimbra that the district uses. This occurred as the district did some upgrades a few weeks ago and there are many new computer “glitches” in the program. IT dept. found a way to share the calendar with you in a new format. One advantage is that I am able to include more events/activities in each box.

Congratulations to Marty Lange, 5th grader in Mrs. Boron’s class. Mrs. Boron’s class entered the Seasons of Diversity contest sponsored by the city of Santa Clarita. This annual contest promotes the sharing of ideas in the area cultural diversity through writing and art. Thank you to Mrs. Boron for encouraging her students to participate in this contest for the second year.

Welcome to our new students who enrolled this week:  Jayden Brown, Janice Ha, Sarah Pascual, Kaia Redfern.

Many of you have asked what you can do in light of the budget cuts/crisis in education. I encourage you to write or call both state and federal officials in regards to the cuts that have been made and that are continuing in our state. I am providing names and addresses below. These are all public record and can be found in your daily newspapers.

PTA NEWS

OPEN PTA POSITIONS

What helps to make Tesoro del Valle Elementary such a great community?

Our parent volunteers of course! Our school takes great pride in its tremendous PTA members.  The time has come for several members to vacate their current positions. You can really make a difference by filling one of them! We have positions that will require little of your time, but give the children big rewards.  Several parents on the board work outside the home and find time to give to their child’s school.

The following information will help you answer questions about our opened Executive Board Positions:

VP  Fundraising

Time Commitment:  Depending on the week of the fundraising event.

Busiest Times of Year: Around our major fund

raisers and fall gift wrap sale.

Select fundraising opportunities for our school.  Fundraising is a crucial component to our PTA.  It is the way we pay for all of our PTA events from assemblies, to field trips, to Mother/Son and Father/Daughter events, etc.  Oversee all existing PTA fundraising activities by assisting committee chairs with program organization, budgeting and continuity.  Evaluates overall effectiveness of PTA fundraising efforts and makes suggestions to the Board for program improvements.

PTA Membership

Time Commitment: Up to 8 hours

Busiest Times of Year: September

For each membership drive, develop letters to announce the start of the membership drive, stamping membership envelopes for distribution, collecting envelopes, recording membership names for printing at later date in bulletin. Collect, count, and deposit money with financial secretary.  Develop bulletin notices to list and thank all paid members. Find vendors to donate rewards for membership.  Good job for parent working daytime hours.

If I can answer any questions please e-mail me at ssandak@earthlink.net  Thank you in advance for your support.

MC TEACHER NIGHT WAS A SUCCESS!

We appreciate you coming out to support Tesoro, we had a wonderful turn out!

Mrs. Kirk’s first grade class is the winner of the “Hamburger Party”.  Congratulations!

JOG-A-THON 2010

Tesoro del Valle PTA will host our 1st Annual Jog-A-Thon on April 28th.  This exciting new adventure will be fun for the kids and help us raise money for our much needed technology fund.  Our computer lab needs new computers, our adored broadcast system for Monday mornings is temperamental and Mrs. Post would love to add more Smart Boards (www.smarttech.com) to our classrooms.

The Jog-a-thon will help raise money to fund this, but I need help.  To begin, I need a committee of 8 enthusiastic and reliable team members.  Committee members will be responsible for student pledges, corporate sponsorships, donations, theme, and field set-up.

I know finding time during our all ready demanding schedules can be a challenge, which is why I am organizing now.   If this is something you can commit to, please let me know immediately at lmaloney1@att.net .  I’d like to have our first committee meeting this Friday.  Your contribution will be invaluable to our school.

Thank you!

YEARBOOK PRE-SALE

Yearbook pre-sale is here!  The pre-sale will run from Tuesday, February 2nd through Friday, February 26th.  Order now to guarantee your copy. The cost is $22.00 per book so order now and don't miss out.
