Message from Mrs. Post….

I would like to say a big thank you to our PTA and especially to Mrs. Kim Brouillette and her volunteers who made the Mother-Son Bowling Night such a special and fun event for all of our moms and their sons.  It was so much fun to see the boys having such a good time with their moms, and when they turned on the “cosmic lighting”, the boys really were impressed. Thank you for such a fun evening. Our thanks go to the Santa Clarita Lanes for their help in making this a special evening for Tesoro del Valle.

This Thursday marks another PTA McTeacher (McDonald’s) Night for Tesoro del Valle. So please, mark your calendar for Thursday, January 28th from 4-8 p.m. The event will be held at the McDonald’s in the Pavilions/Elephant Bar Shopping Center across from the post office. Many of our Tesoro del Valle staff will be joining us for this fun evening. This is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together for an evening out, and it’s a great way to support the PTA school sponsored event. If it rains, we’ll still be there, so don’t let the weather “dampen” your spirits!

Last week I mentioned that Sports Chalet was accepting “gently used” shoes for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. Since then, I’ve learned that donating items such as shoes and clothing takes a long period of time to be approved and reach the country in need. (One of our administrators and her husband are from Haiti and have friends and family there.) According to my source, one of the best ways to help is to contribute money to an organization of your choice. I also received word that several local restaurants are planning a “Dine Out for Disaster Relief” day on Wednesday, January 27th. Restaurants participating are Wolf Creek; Salt Creek Grille; Baja Fresh, Valencia; Baja Fresh, Canyon Country; Egg Plantation; The Tea Gardens; Lampost Pizza; and Lazy Dog Café.  A flyer will be posted in the front office window for more information.

The word of character for the month of January is Fairness. I address this important attribute of character at our weekly broadcast. This month I’ve discussed ways to practice fairness such as: Taking turns, telling the truth, playing by the rules, thinking about how one’s actions will affect others, and taking responsibility for mistakes and not blaming others. I know that the teachers are addressing this important word of character in their class meetings. Today, I am sending home an article from my administrators’ publication. Perhaps this can be a topic for discussion at home around the dinner table.

SITE COUNCIL MEETING

The next Site Council Meeting is Wednesday, January 27th at 3:45 p.m. in the Staff Lounge.  These meetings are open to the community.  The agenda is posted in the marquee.

REMINDER:   Please remember to check in at the office whenever you are on campus and to please wait outside the gate at dismissal time.

Thank you for your cooperation!

PTA NEWS

"We have an exciting kick-off for Emergency Preparedness Month.  Donna Nuzzi, the City of Santa Clarita's Emergency Services Supervisor, will be giving a presentation at our next PTA Meeting on Wednesday the 27th at 9am.  There will be door prizes galore, and a special drawing for two larger prizes.  Come and take the opportunity to learn more about preparing for emergencies and about how our city can help."

Thanks, TaShera Jenkins

SAVE THE DATE!!!!  PTA RESTAURANT NIGHT

McTeacher night is this Thursday, January 28th, from 4 – 8 p.m. at the McDonalds in the Pavilions parking lot.  Come out to support our school and have a bite to eat served up by our very own Tesoro teachers!  Please look for your flyers in the Tuesday folder.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
Jen Rademacher

ENRICHMENT CLASSES

A.S.E. Enrichment Update:  Thank you for enrolling your children in A.S.E. Enrichment classes!  We all had a great start last week!  On Wednesday, in Incredible Edible Geography, children learned all about sand and made Beach in a Glass that was delicious!  Drummers began their first drum lesson using drum pads and drum sticks.

On Thursday, Kindergarteners taking Creative Art and Music made a cute fish shaker instrument out of film canisters, beads, and felt.  They had fun coming up with patterns and shapes to create rhythms for songs.  Hip Hop began with the same talented instructor who began teaching moves for a new choreographed routine.

Unfortunately, the “My First Music Video” class for both A.M. and P.M. Kindergarten had to be cancelled, due to low enrollment.  If you have any questions, please call 818-702-6000.

YEARBOOK PRE-SALE IS COMING!

It's that time of year again.  Yearbook pre-sales will begin on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 and end on Friday, February 26, 2010.  The pre-sale price will be $22.00 per book. Please look for flyers coming home soon!

SIXTH GRADE PARENTS

Please fill out the Rio Norte Pre-Registration Information forms and return them to Tesoro no later than February 5, 2010.

The Rio Norte Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is looking for parents who are interested in holding an office or chair position on the Executive Board.  Positions do not require a lot of your time and meetings are monthly.  This is a great opportunity to be "in the loop" with school information.  For more information, please contact Lisa Bomben at mamalisa@ca.rr.com.

FOOD DRIVE

Food items for January:  Canned chili, canned vegetables (other than green beans and corn) or crackers.

Thank you.
