DATES TO REMEMBER
Message from Mrs. Post….
Many people in our community are interested in improving their English language skills. Help us connect the need to the solution; spread the word about these 3 upcoming fall classes. When we start the fall semester, we will have 2 weeks to fill up these classes. Our fee-based program depends on your help. Some of you can tell your SUMMER students about these.
Conversational English and American Culture
This class is designed to engage students in listening and speaking activities related to real life settings in order to help develop fluency of spoken English. Students will master patterns of spoken American English through the study of pronunciation, tone, and conversation strategies. This class emphasizes the practical use of English and components of American culture. This class is open to anyone. However, the course content is more appropriate for intermediate and high-level English language learners.
Wednesday 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm; 6 sessions:
Sept 7 to Oct 12 / Fee: $49
Instructor: Peggy Khoury
Location: Bonelli Hall 13 @ COC
Reading and Writing in English
This course focuses on reading and vocabulary building. Topics include finding the topic, guessing meaning from context, skimming, scanning, basic dictionary use, and increasing vocabulary through understanding root words. Students will then use their understanding to write sentences and paragraphs.
Tuesday 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm; 6 sessions;
Sept 6 to Oct. 11 / Fee: $49
Instructor: Jeffrey Bretz
Location: Bonelli Hall 306
Talk This Way
Accent Reduction for ESL Students

This class will cover discrete sounds as well as stress and intonation, aural discrimination, and sound pattern reproduction.
Wednesday 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm; 6 sessions;
Oct. 12 to Nov. 16 / Fee: $49
Instructor: Thomas Rix
Location: Bonelli Hall 306

Please remember to call the office before 9:00 a.m. the morning that your student will be absent from school. The State of California requires a specific reason, "not feeling well" or "sick" are not acceptable. Please let us know if your child has a cold, is vomiting, is out of town, etc.
LIBRARY NEWS FROM MRS. SQUIRES
It is time to turn in your Summer Reading Forms. The deadline is Friday, Sept 2nd. If you don't have a Summer Reading Form you may list the books that you read on a sheet of notebook paper, but be sure to print your name and your teacher's name at the top of the page and have your parents sign the list. Any book that students read alone, with a parent, or to someone else, counts toward their Summer Reading Total.
Your librarian is on the web. For library information visit the Tesoro Tiger Tales Wiki: [Click to view link] For information about the reading, writing and sharing of children's books, read my blog - All About the Books: [Click to view link]
SAY CHEESE!! Tuesday, September 13th is School Picture Day. Order forms will be coming home next week.
JOG-A-THON 2011 – OCTOBER 26TH
It's that time again to plan for our 2011 Running for a Reason Jog-a-thon! Tesoro's main fundraiser remarkably raised $32,000 last year, but we hope to reach the $45,000 goal in 2011!
What we need now?
1) Corporate Sponsors to provide a tax-deductible donation of $250 or more. In return, your company logo will be placed on the back of over 600 event day t-shirts, a banner in front of the school and publicly recognized in the school newsletter and PTA website.
2) Committee Members to plan this fun but vital event!
