Dear Parents,
I hope you had a restful fall break. Parent conferences were very productive. Thank you for your support in your child’s education. When we form a team we can help children meet their potential. We will be starting some intervention classes to help students who are struggling with the curriculum. Invitations will be sent home in the next couple of weeks.
Comments from the Fourth Grade Parent Surveys form May 2008: twenty-three out of sixty-eight surveys were returned. Comment: “My daughter said the restrooms are not clean.” Response: The restrooms are clean very thoroughly every day. Custodians sanitize the bathroom floors, sinks and toilets. Sometimes students misuse the paper products in the restrooms. If this is the case the custodian will clean the restroom during the school day. Comment: “Beautiful, excellent, Awesome school. The best in So-Ca, wish it went to 12th grade.” “Mrs. Bohn takes her job very seriously. I admire her and her way of dealing with her responsibility.”

Dear Parents,
We will be starting Intervention Classes for third and fourth grades. Classes run six weeks and students must attend all classes. Students who scored below basic and far below basic on the CST will be invited to the Intervention Classes. This year Enrichment Classes will also run every six weeks so you can alternate between a session of intervention and a session of enrichment.
Comments from the Fifth Grade Parent Survey from May 2008: Twenty-three out of sixty-eight surveys were returned. Comment: “My son would not be where he is today if it wasn’t for Skyblue Mesa and all you do.” “We would like to see more trash cans out on the yard.” Response: Our campus has never looked better. The new MPR is providing a wind break which helps with trash blowing around. Additionally, students have really taken pride in keeping their school clean. Comment: “Grounds are well kept.” “The teachers are great and will always stick out in my son’s mind and heart.”
Autumn is here, so take time to enjoy the colors and smells of this season.

Dear Parents,
Join us on Sunday, October 26th, for the Saugus Union School District’s Centennial Celebration at Bridgeport Park from 1:00pm-4:00pm. The event will include booths sponsored by our schools, student entertainment and food vendors. Skyblue Mesa students will be singing at 3:45p.m. We would love all out families to attend.
Results of the Sixth Grade Parent Surveys: Seventeen out of seventy-seven surveys were returned. Comment: “More than one gate needs to be opened.” Response: The gates are locked so that all people entering the campus must do so by the office. This helps to assure that we know who is on campus. Comment: “Skyblue is the best. I am glad the teachers made the students more self-reliant.” Response: Sixth grade teachers work with students to ensure they will be successful in Junior High. One way is to make students responsible for their class work, homework and planner.

Dear Parents,
You know how important it is to read to your children. Children whose families read with them do better in school. And the bonds that you make with your children when your read with them help them feel loved, comforted, and secure. Like most families, you want to read with your children, but somehow days can go by without you sitting down with them and opening a book. The key is to make it a priority.
Fifteen minutes a day can change their lives. You may be surprised to know that educators recommend just fifteen minutes a day of reading as a minimum. Like exercise, of course, longer sessions are even more beneficial.
Always have a book on hand, no matter where you are. Keep a small book in your purse or your car’s glove compartment. Make sure that you and your children always have something to read when time is available.
