Skyblue Mesa Newsletter of 3-04-08

Abajo se encuentra el boletin en Espanol.

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

Please be sure to notice the pick up times this week.  We have changes due to parent conferences.  Please be on time to your conference so we can stay on schedule.  There is no supervision on the playground during conferences.  If you can not find child care for your children, you must keep them with you during the conference.  I have read all of the report cards and I am very pleased with the progress our students have made.  We need to celebrate not only their hard work but parents’ and teachers’ hard work as well. I will be attending some of the conferences but will also be available in the office.  Hope to see all of you!

I would like to thank Andrew McHaddad for his expertise and assistance with the new MPR sound system.  He was very instrumental in helping me obtain a high quality system.

Del Escritorio de la Principal

Estimados Padres,

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

With spring right around the corner, it can be hard to keep children focused on learning.  What can you do to make school a top priority for your kids?  Keep these simple ideas in mind-they’re useful at any time of the year.

Make attendance job #1.  Let your kids know that unless they’re sick, they must go to school.  Try to schedule routine dentist and doctor appointments after school hours.  If possible, take family vacations during school breaks.

Show you care.  Want your children to know that you’re interested in their learning?  Talk about their school activities and projects.  Attend as many school events as you can.  If homework and after school activities, conflict, speak up:  “Once you finish your homework, I will take you to practice.”

Keep it upbeat.  Try to set a positive example for your children, even when your own day has been difficult.  If you show a positive attitude about your work, your youngsters may feel better about their own.

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

Last Thursday we had an extended disaster drill that was very successful.  The students did a drop drill in the classroom at 8:30am and then evacuated to their fire drill lines.  Once attendance was taken, they were released to their color areas.  Each student has a color pocket with their emergency information.  When they move to their color area they are grouped alphabetically and all siblings are together.  The custodian does a lock down and safety check.  One teacher stays at each color area while other teachers set up the command post, first aide, search and rescue, request and release gates.  Two teams of teachers searched all classrooms, bathrooms, workrooms, office and MPR while communicating to the command post.  The command post marked off rooms as they were searched and recorded all events that happened during the drill. Student runners helped with equipment and escorting students to the restrooms.  Our disaster bin is fully equipped with food, water and first aid supplies.  These are replenished every year thanks to your donations.  The drill lasted one hour and was the best one yet!  Now would be an excellent time for you to get your disaster plan and supplies ready at home.
