Skyblue Mesa Newsletter of 1-8-08

Abajo se encuentra el boletin en Espanol.

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!  Lots of construction happened over the winter break. We are getting ready to open our new MPR.  Finishing touches and inspections are being completed.  We are also starting the grass field renovation.  The field will be fenced off and a new irrigation system will be installed and then it will be hydro seeded.   It will be finished and ready for use next August.

I received a letter from Carl Goldman, Co-Owner of KHTS AM-1220 and Chairperson of the SCV Disaster Coalition.  I would like to share some of it with you.

“Dear Skyblue Mesa Community Members,

Thank you for your support of our Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition.  Your donation of money, gift cards and checks will be utilized for relief operations and support of victims affected by this disaster that have no other means of available to them to ameliorate and enhance recovery.  Thank you for your support that helps to ensure our
neighbors are assisted by every means possible when tragedy hits home in the Santa Clarita Valley.”

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

Last Friday teachers worked on math standards and benchmarks.  They designed intervention strategies and compiled materials to help students who are struggling in math.  Grade levels worked together compiling a list of skills for each grade level that students must master.  Teachers will then inform parents of the skills that students must master at each trimester.  We are also putting together suggestions that parents can do at home to help their children be more successful.  Teachers worked very hard and their effort will directly benefit our students.

Skyblue Mesa Newsletter of 1-22-08

Abajo se encuentra el boletin en Espanol.

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

Active listening is a way of listening so that true understanding is achieved.  The following pointers will help your child learn active listening skills and increase his learning in school:

  • Take turns talking.  Only one person gets to talk at a time.  The first person shares his ideas, and the second person listens carefully.
  • Focus on the speaker.  Look at him, make eye contact, and nod occasionally to show that you understand.  Concentrate on what he’s saying.
  • Summarize the speaker’s ideas.  Summarize his main points, or ask questions to make sure you understand.  Only then you can share your thoughts.
  • It’s your turn!  Now you talk and your partner listens carefully.  He must summarize your ideas before he gets to speak again.

Active listening is not just limited to two people!  Try it with the whole family when there’s a disagreement-it’s a great way to resolve conflicts.

Skyblue Mesa Newsletter of 1-29-08

Abajo se encuentra el boletin en Espanol.

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

I would like to thank Wendy McHaddad and all the parents who are helping with Valet in the morning.  Your vigilance even through the rain has kept our children safe and helped parents get to work without having to park.  Liz McCormack our wonderful stop sign yard supervisor has diligently worked rain or shine.  Be sure to give all these special helpers a quick thank you as you drive by.  Please reduce your vehicle speed when it is raining.  The water builds up near the curb and splashes up on the students and volunteers.   Our Valet program has been commended by the Sheriff’s Department.

“We are looking forward to a beautiful new kitchen as is the Skyblue team:  Sue Hertzog, April Ward and Michelle Chandler.  Congratulations to ALL three ladies for a job well done.”

Del Escritorio de la Principal

Estimados Padres,
