Skyblue Mesa Newsletter of 8-22-06
From the Principal’s Desk
We had a great first week of school. The teachers worked hard to have beautiful bulletin boards and centers ready. Office staff has been working diligently to get class lists and student records in order. Custodians have the school polished and shining. Liz McCormack, PTO President, gave a great welcome and her team did a beautiful job with refreshments. Wendy McHaddad had the Valet Drop Off in full swing. Special welcome to our new teachers Cheryl Cameron 4th grade,
Our new two-story building is open. Third grade students are on the top level and fourth grade is on the bottom. The classrooms are beautiful. Each room has two new computers and printer. They have spacious cabinets and new furniture. We will start construction on our new Multipurpose room in November. It will take approximately 18 months to build.
Test scores are in and Skyblue Mesa had another great year. You will be receiving your child’s results at back to school night.
Well we are off and running and hope you will jump in as partners. These elementary years will fly by and they are probably the most crucial to your child’s success. Your involvement can really make the difference. Hope to see you all at Back to School Night!

Skyblue Mesa Newsletter of 8-29-06
Thank you parents for attending Back to School Night. We value your support and want to work with you to give your child the best possible education. STAR test results went home at Back to School Night. If you did not attend, they will be mailed home to you. These results are from last spring for grades 2-6. I have gone over the results of the STAR testing and setting up intervention classes for students who scored basic and below in Math or English Language Arts. Please remember that this is just one measure of your child’s ability. I will be talking to teachers and looking at cumulative records to identify students at risk. Teachers will be discussing student progress and academic intervention programs at your Goal Setting Conference. These programs will be starting in the next couple of weeks. Statistics have shown that the two things parents can do that greatly impact student learning are making sure their children do their homework every night and attend school daily. I have purchased planners for every third through sixth grade student so they can write their homework down each night. The planner can also be used for parent and teacher communication. Additionally, every teacher has e-mail and voice mail for your convenience.
The spaghetti dinner/bingo night was a great success. Thank you PTO for the delicious dinner and entertaining bingo game. We appreciate all your hard work and the pounds and pounds of spaghetti you cooked! Our new building is getting some finishing touches and our elevator will be up and going once it’s inspected. Computer lab, music, and library begin this week. P.E. will begin the week of September 11th. All parents must sign in and get a visitor pass before coming on campus. This is district policy and is for the safety of all students. Thank you for your patience at after school pick up. As teachers get to know you and your children, the process will become quicker. The most important thing is the safety of your children. Friday dismissal took less than 10 minutes! Have a safe Labor Day weekend!Debbie Bohn, Principal
