From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

I was sent the following email that I thought was worth sharing with you. . . .

What do you make?
The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.

One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He
argued, 'What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option
in life was to become a teacher?'
He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers:
'Those who can, do... Those who can't, teach.

To stress his point he said to another guest; 'You're a teacher,
Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?'
Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, 'You
want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, and then began...)

• I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
• I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner.
• I make kids wonder.
• I make them question.
• I make them apologize and mean it.
• I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.
• I teach them to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything.
• I make them read, read, read.  

     I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.

• I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity.
• I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.
• I make my students stand, placing their hand over their heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, One Nation Under God, because we
  live in the United States of America.
• Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.

(Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.)
'Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant.... You want to know what I make?

I MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Fifth Grade Parents Needed

Fifth Grade Parent Volunteers are needed to serve refreshments at the Sixth Grade Promotion, Friday, June 13^th, from 8:15am-11:00am.  Please contact Cristina Wyatt at 661-250-0334 if you can help

Mrs. D. Day – June 6th

After thirty-eight years of service with the Saugus Union School District, Mrs. Dagodag, one of Skyblue’s terrific Kindergarten teachers, will be retiring this June.  We are compiling a memory book to present to her on June 6th,

“Mrs. D. Day”.  If you have any special memories, please jot them down, or if you have pictures you would like to add to this book, please bring them to Skyblue by May 30^th in care of Mrs. Phelan.  (Pictures will not be returned)

School Medication/Health Office

Please remember that you must pick up your child’s leftover medication on the last day of school.  We are not permitted to send the medication home with your child.  You may come to school in advance and take home the extra medication, leaving only enough until the end of the year, or you may come to the office on the last day of school to pick up your child’s medication.  PLEASE REMEMBER THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IS A MINIMUM DAY!  Medications left after the last day of school will be discarded.

News from the Kitchen

Wednesday, May 21, 2008, is the last day the kitchen will accept checks for payment of school lunches for the 2007-2008 school year. After that day, only cash or money orders will be accepted until the end of the school year.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Estimados Padres,

Yo recibí el siguiente correo electrónico (email) que yo creo debo compartir con Uds.

 Cuanto tu ganas?

Los invitados a una cena estaban sentados alrededor de una mesa hablando de la vida.  Un hombre, un CEO (Jefe Ejecutivo de una Compañía), decidió explicar el problema con la educación.  El argumento,  “Que va aprender un niño de alguien que decide que su mejor opción en la vida es hacer maestro?”  El le recordó a los invitados a la cena que lo que deben decir acerca de los maestros es  “Esos que pueden, hacen... y esos que no pueden, enseñan.” Para enfatizar sus puntos el le pregunto a otro invitado; “Tu eres maestra, Bonnie.  Se honesta.  Cuanto tu ganas?”
Bonnie, que tiene reputación de honesta y franca contesto, “Tu quieres saber cuanto gano? “(Ella hizo una pausa por un segundo, y dijo...)

• Yo hago trabajar a los niños mas fuerte de lo que ellos piensan pueden hacer..
• Yo hago que una C+ se sienta ganador de una medalla de Honor.
• Yo hago a los niños maravillarse.
• Yo le hago preguntar..
• Yo los hago pedir disculpas con humildad y sentirla.
• Yo los hago tener respeto y tomar responsabilidad por sus acciones.
• Yo les enseño a escribir y después los hago que escriban.  “La computadora” no lo es todo. 

• Yo los hago leer, leer, leer.. 
• Yo los hago enseñar todos sus trabajos en matemáticas.  Ellos usan el regalo que Dios les dio, su cerebro, no la calculadora hecha por el hombre.
• Yo hago a mis estudiantes de otros países aprender todo lo que ellos necesitan en Ingles mientras conservan sus identidades culturales.
• Yo hago mi salón un lugar donde todos mis estudiantes se sientan seguros.
• Yo hago a mis estudiantes ponerse de pie, ponerse sus manos sobre sus corazones y decir La Jura de la Bandea, Una Nación Bajo Dios, porgue nosotros vivimos en los Estados Unidos de América.
• Finalmente, yo los hago entender que si ellos usan el regalo que le han dado, trabajan duro, y siguen su corazón, ellos pueden triunfar en la vida.

(Bonnie hace una ultima pausa y después continua.)
'Entonces, cuando la gente trata de juzgarme por lo que gano, para mi sabiendo que el dinero no lo es todo, yo puedo mantener mi cabeza bien alta y no poner atención porgue ellos son lo ignorante….Ud. quiere saber lo que yo hago? “

Necesitamos Padres de Ninos en el Quinto Grado

Noticias de la Cocina

Miércoles el 21 de Mayo, 2008 es el ultimo día que la cocina puede aceptar cheques para pago por los almuerzos para este ano 2007-2008.  Después de esta fecha los desayunos y almuerzos se tienen que pagar con dinero o con giros hasta el fin del ano.

Día para Mrs. D. Day – el 6 de Junio

Después de 38 anos de servicio con el Distrito Saugus, Sra. Dagodag,  una de las maestras maravillosas de Kindergarten, se va retirar este Junio.  Nosotros estamos reuniendo cosas para hacerla un “libro de memoria” para presentar el 6 de Junio  para “Mrs. D. Day”.  Si tienes memorias especiales, por favor escríbelas, si tienes fotos y quiere ponerlas en el libro, por favor tráelos a Skyblue Mesa antes del 30 de Mayo al nombre de Sra. Phelan.  (Fotos no serán devueltas.)

Medicina en la Escuela

    Oficina de Salud

Por favor recuerden que deben de recoger la medicina de sus niños el último día de clase.  No es permitido mandarla medicina con los niños a la casa.  POR FAVOR RECUERDE QUE EL DIA ULTIMO DE CLASES ES MINIMO (CORTO)!  Medicina que no sea recogida el último día será puesta en la basura.
