Dear Parents,

Conference letters will come home today. The following are some helpful suggestions for having successful Parent-Teacher Conferences taken from National Association of Elementary School Principals.

Having Successful Parent-Teacher Conferences

It doesn’t matter if you’re the student, the teacher or the parent, parent-teacher conferences are bound to cause some anxiety.  Yet these one-on-one meetings are priceless opportunities for families to get a better understanding of their children.  By preparing well for your meetings with teachers and following up with both your children and their teachers afterward, you can strengthen your children’s school success. 

Before the Conference:

Listen.  Any time you hear your child talking about something he or she is doing really well in or is having trouble with, either with school work or classmates make a note of it.  When it’s time for the conference with the teacher, you’ll have a ready-made list of things to discuss.

Ask.  When it’s time to schedule the conference with the teacher, sit down with your child and ask him or her what you should discuss with the teacher. Encourage your children to open up and tell you what it’s like for them in the classroom.

Bring notes and papers.  Write down questions you want to address with the teacher.  Bring copies of any assignments you have questions about.

 

During the Conference

Be on time.  Schools tightly schedule parent-teacher conferences because there’s only so much time available and dozens of families to see.  Show up at least a few minutes early. 

Hire a babysitter.  It’s important to make sure that the time you have with the teacher is as productive as possible.  Having children in the room is distracting. 

Take notes.  In addition to presenting the questions and concerns you brought to the meeting, make sure to take notes about what the teacher is telling you about your child. 

Keep emotions out of it.  It is always difficult to hear that your “angel” or “young Einstein” isn’t exactly the person you thought he or she was in the classroom.  Keep your cool and bear in mind that the teacher is offering constructive criticism. 

After the Conference

Talk to your child.  Sit down with your child and tell him or her what you and the teacher discussed. 

Follow up.  If there were important issues that need to be dealt with, such as finding a tutor or getting counseling for your child, make sure to follow up in writing with the teacher soon after the conference.

Follow through.  Once you know what you can do at home to help your child succeed in school, make sure to actually do it.  It’s understandable that finding the time might be difficult, but remember-your child needs you.

Estimados Padres,

El hecho de comunicarse con el maestro de su niño puede resultar en una situación de ansiedad tanto para el estudiante, maestro y padre.  Sin embargo, estas reuniones cara a cara son excelentes oportunidades para que las familias lleguen a comprender mejor a sus ninos.  Al prepararse bien para las conferencias y seguimiento con sus ninos y maestros después de la reunion, usted pued ayudar a fortalecer los resultados académico de sus ninos. 

Antes de la conferencia:

Escuche.  Cuando su niño hable acerca de las tareas escolares en las cuales esta rindiendo bien o teniendo dificultades, tome nota.  Haga lo mismo cuando comente acerca de sus compañeros de escuela.  De esta manera, usted tendrá una lista de temas para discutir con el maestro durante la conferencia. 

Haga preguntas.  Antes de programar la conferencia con el maestro, siéntese con su niño y pregúntele lo que el o ella piensa que usted debe discutir con el maestro.  Anime a sus ninos a que conversen acerca de la sala de clases. 

Lleve notas y papeles.  A note cualquier pregunta que quiera hacerle al maestro y lleve copias de cualquier tarea sobre la cual tenga preguntas.

Durante la conferencia:

Llegue a tiempo.  Las escuelas tienen que programar muchas conferencias entre maestros/padres y hay poco tiempo y muchas familias que tienen que ver.

Llegue por lo menos algunos minutos antes di tiempo. 

Busque una niñera.  Es importante que se asegure de que el tiempo que tenga para reunirse con el maestro se productivo. 

Tome notas.  Además de presentar sus preguntas y preocupaciones, tome notas sobre lo que el maestro diga aceras de su niño.

No demuestre sus emociones.  Aunque sea difícil escuchar que su “angelito” o joven “Einstein” no es exactamente las persona que usted pensaba en la sala de clases, manténgase calmada y recuerde que el maestro esta ofreciendo críticas constructivas.

Después de la conferencia:

Converse con su nino.  Siéntese con su niño y comparta lo que usted y el maestro discutieron. 

Después de la conferencia.  Si hay asuntos importantes que resolver después de la conferencia como por ejemplo, encontrar un tutor u obtener asesoramiento para su niño, asegúrese de comunicarse con el maestro por escrito.

Seguimiento.  Una vez que usted sepa lo que puede hacer en casa para ayudar a su niño en obtener buenos resultados académicos, asegúrese de cumplir con su parte.  Aunque sea difícil encontrar el tiempo para ayudarle, recuerde-su niño depende de usted.

Noticias del Servicio de Alimentos

SCVSFSA  no puede extender ningún crédito (IOU’s).   Solo leche y ensalada será ofrecida a los niños que no tengan dinero.  La ensalada consiste en dos frutas, lechuga, un  vegetal, zanahoria, un plato de papa, y un postre. El máximo limite son dos (2) ensaladas como “lunch” por estudiante, después de este tiempo (2 días) el estudiante sera mandado a la oficina para hacer un arreglo acerca de “lunch” o traer el dinero para pagar a la escuela.  Por favor haga contacto con nuestra Agencia con cualquier problema o asunto a, 295-1574 x103.
