Dear Parents,

If you are looking for some ideas to fill your days off, consider the following activities for children:

• Start a collection-rocks, stamps, baseball cards, bottle caps, labels, marbles, leaves, bugs.
• Organize photos in an album by date or activity.  Save newspaper or magazine photos of their favorite athletes or TV personalities that they can use to create a scrapbook.
• Take charge of family recycling by cleaning and separating plastic, glass, and metal containers, and stacking papers.
• Keep a journal or diary of their own or the family’s summer activities.
• Read books.  Help them find interesting books at the local library or participate in the library’s summer reading program.
• Write and mail letters or postcards to cousins, grandparents, and friends.
• Help with a yard or tag sale.  Let them set prices for their outgrown toys and clothes, and make change

• Visit historical sites in your area or along the way during a family trip.
• Plant a garden.  Put children in charge of a garden plot in the yard, a window box, or a planter.  Let them have full responsibility for watering, weeding and fertilizing the plants.
• Camp out for a night in your yard or on the balcony.  Most kids enjoy “roughing it”- as long as home and family are nearby.

Children need a change from the hectic school year schedule.  Being spontaneous, playing, daydreaming, deciding what to or what not to do are also important parts of growing up. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday and restful two weeks.

Estimados Padres,

Si Ud. Esta buscando algunas ideas para llenar sus días libres, considere las siguiente actividades para estar con sus hijos:

• Empiece una colección- piedra, estampillas, tarjetas de peloteros, tapas de botellas, etiquetas, canicas, hojas de árboles, insectos.
• Organicé fotos en un álbum por fechas y actividades- Guarde periódico o revistas de sus atletas o personajes de televisión favoritos que ellos puedan usar para crear un álbum de recortes.
• Mantén un diario- De ellos mismos o de las actividades de la familia.
• Lean libros-  Ayúdelos a encontrar libros interesantes en la librería local o participe en el programa de lectura en el verano.
• Escriba y mande cartas o tarjetas postales a los abuelos, tíos, primos y amigos.
• Ayúdelos con una venta en la yarda-  Deje que ellos le pongan precio a los juguetes y ropa que ya no usan y hagan cambio.
• Investiguen la historia de la familia- Si es posible, reúna fotos de los abuelos, bisabuelos y haga que los niños escriban los nombres y fechas de nacimiento
• Visite centros históricos en su área- o en otras partes en un viaje con la familia. 
• Plante un jardín- Ponga a los niños al cargo de una parte de la yarda, de una caja en una ventana o en una maceta.  Déjelos a ellos toda la responsabilidad de echarle agua, quitarle las yerbas malas y alimentar las plantas.

Los niños necesitan un cambio de la rutina agitada del ano escolar.  Siendo espontáneos, jugando, decidiendo que hacer o que no hacer, eso es una parte muy importante en el proceso del crecimiento.  Yo deseo Uds. tengan unos maravillosos días festivos y dos semanas de descanso.
