Dear Parents,

I hope you had a restful break with your children.  We have just a few short weeks until progress reports come home.  You have done such a great job at getting your children here every day on time!  Thank you for making their education a priority!

 

Comments from the 2007 Parent Survey:  Fourth Grade Parent Comment: “Since 4th grade is the first year students receive letter grades, interim progress updates should be sent home prior to official progress reports so parents can see student’s weak areas and where additional assistance is needed.”  Response: Parents should go through their child’s corrected work on a regular basis so they can see how their child is performing.  Fourth through sixth grade teachers use the Grade Pro system that can give progress reports.  If you are concerned about your child’s progress you may call or e-mail the teacher.  Parent comment: “There needs to be more patrolling in the afternoon.  I also think there should be a crossing guard on Ermine and Hardesty after school.  I have witnessed some near misses of kid’s almost getting hit.” Response:  The crossing guard position is staffed by the city.  There is a formula that they work with to determine how many crossing guards a school will receive.   We have requested one on this corner but do not meet criteria.  There is no stopping on the school side of Hardesty.  This is new since last year.  Cars that stop for any reason will be ticketed.  This is for the safety of our students. Additionally, please do not call your children to jaywalk across Hardesty.  When we work together we can keep all children safe.

Writing Contest

Students in Grades three through twelfth in the Santa Clarita Valley are invited to submit their work in a writing contest currently underway as a prelude to the Children’s Literacy & Arts Festival.  Entries are due October 25th, and the winner will be announced at the festival, 10:00am – 4:00pm, Saturday,November 3rd at Newhall Park. 

The writing contest is divided into four categories:  cartoon, poetry, editorial and short story.  Official entry blanks, rules and judging matrices will be available Tuesday, October 2nd on the Festival Web Site at http://www.scvcef.com/.

 

Parenting Class-Child & Family Center

The Child & Family Center located at 21545 Centre Pointe Parkway will be having Parenting Classes.  They will be held October 23rd – December 4th on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm-7:30pm.  The cost is $50.00/person and $75.00/couple.  There is an additional charge of $18.00 for materials.  For more information call 661-259-9439 Ext. 3038.

 

Red Ribbon Week
 National Red Ribbon Week is October 22nd-26th.  Please help your children show their support by discussing what it means to be "drug free" and by participating in the week's activities.  Help us create a safer and healthier Skyblue Mesa Community.

Monday, October 22nd:  "Wear Red Day".  Show you care!  Say something positive to at least 3 people today.

Tuesday, October 23rd:"Too bright to do drugs day".  Wear sunglasses to school.

Wednesday, October 24th:  "Team up against drugs day".  Wear a team jersey or sports shirt.

Thursday, October 25th:  "Sock it to drugs day".  Wear your craziest socks.

Friday, October 26th:  "Say BOO to drugs day".  Wear orange and black.

Estimados Padres,

Espero Uds. hayan tenido unas descansadas vacaciones con sus ninos.  En poco tiempo el reporte del progreso de sus ninos sera enviado a casa.  Uds. han hecho un gran trabajo al tener cada dia sus ninos a tiempo a la escuela!  Gracias por hacer la educacion de su hijos una prioridad!

 

Comentarios de la encuesta a Padres del 2007 :  Comentario de Padre de 4 Grado: “Siendo  este el primer ano que estudiantes de 4 grado reciben una carta con los grados regular, deben de mandar un reporte de progreso.  Asi padres pueden ver donde sus hijos necesitan ayuda.”  Respuesta: Los padres deben revisar los trabajos corregidos de los ninos cada dia, asi pueden ver el progreso de los ninos.  Los maestros de 4^th a 6^th grado usan Grade Pro System que puede darles reporte del progreso.  Si Ud. esta preocupado por el progreso de sus ninos Ud. puede llamar o email los maestros.  Comentario: “Hay necesidad de mas supervision en la tarde.  Yo tambien creo que debe haber Guardia de Cruces en Ermine y Hardesty despues de escuela.  Yo he sido testigo de ver ninos muy cerca de ser atropellado.” Respuesta:  El Guardia de Cruce es mandado por la ciudad.  Ellos trabajan con una regla que es la que determina cuantos Guardia de Cruce cada escuela recibe.  Nosotros no llenamos los requisitos.  Alli no hay un PARE o STOP en el lado de Hardesty.  Esto es Nuevo desde el ano pasado.  Carros que paren por cualquier razon resibira una multa.  Esto es para proteccion de los estudiantes.  Adicional, por favor no llame a su nino que cruce imprudemente la calle Hardesty.  Cuando trabajamos juntos podemos mantener los ninos seguros.

Concurso de Escritura

Estudiantes en Grados 3 a 12 en el Valle de Santa Clarita estan invitados a presenta sus trabajos en escritura para concursar occuriendo ahora como preludio para el Children’s Literacy and Arts Festival.  La entrega se termina el 25 de Octubre y el ganador sera anunciado en el Festival, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., el Sabado Noviembre 3 en el Parque Newhall.  El concurso se divide en cuatro categories, Caricaturas, Poesias, Editoriales, y Historias Cortas.  Las entradas oficiales, las reglas, etc. estaran disponibles desde Octubre 2 en el festival Web Site at http://www.scvcef.com/ o en la oficina de su Distrito Escolar.

Clases en el Centro de Clases Ninos y Familiares

El Centro de Ninos & Padres esta localizado en el  21545 Centre Pointe Parkway tendra clases de Paternidad dadas el 23 de Octubre hasta el 4 de Diciembre los martes por la tarde de 6:00pm-7:30pm.  El costo sera de $50.00/por persona y and $75.00/por parejas.  Tendra un costo adicional de $18.00 por materiales.  Para mas  informacion llame 661-259-9439 Ext. 3038.

Semana de Cinta Roja
 La semana de Octubre 22 al 26 es las semana de cinta Roja.  Por favor ayude a su nino/a a ensenar su apoyo y hable acerca que significa “Libre de Drogas” participando en las actividades de esta semana.  Ayudenos a crear una segura y saludable “Skyblue Mesa Comunidad.”

Lunes, Octubre 22:  "Vistete en Rojo".  Ensena que importa!  Di algo positivo por lo menos a 3 personas hoy.

Martes, Octubre 23:"Dia muy brillante para ser un dia de droga".  Usa lentes de sol para ir a la escuela.

Miercoles, Octubre 24:  "Unete al grupo contra la droga.  Usa una camiseta de tu grupo o una camiseta de deporte.

Jueves, Octubre 25:  "Golpe los dias de droga".  Usa tus calcetines mas locos.

Viernes, Octubre 26:  "Di BOO a los dias de droga".  Usa algo naranja y negro.
